Our education system in our country is subject I shall stand firm on. The education system needs to have more money thrown in, as opposed to taken away. There should be no budget for schools on the block waiting to be cut. Our new Governor likes to chop away at our school budget. We have chopped too much. If we are to raise the next leaders of the free world, we cannot raise them at a discount school. The quality of education is to be run at such a dismal stipend, that is dangerous and it is just plain ridiculous. Stop the trimming and add more to the children's minds! The monies put into education will only lead to great thinkers, great problem solvers and better yet, kids who can keep up with the children of other nations. We are on our way to giving our children a third world country's education (no disrespect to third world countries).

I have learned early on that is not just the money poured into the programs and the fabulous teachers that do what they love, but it is also the community that must chip in. In my part of the world, we have winners and we have children struggling because of what their parents do at home to help their children succeed. The parents have an obligation to take part in the children's education. The parent's have to be active in their child's learning. If the parents work too much or too long of hours, then have hired help or other relatives or neighbors help them. I guess a coop of learning is needed.

Volunteers are a big part of my community's success. I am a huge fan of volunteering. Anywhere, anytime for one of my near and dear causes. So, when I was unemployed, I had more time to help out in our school system. My child is succeeding because I am on top of her education. Retired people in my community are also there to step in and lend a hand. The schools in our community that had a stronger volunteer base had schools and had children who performed far better in school across the board, than schools which did not have a strong volunteer base. The teachers were able to teach, the children who fell behind were able to be helped, and the children who needed more work because they were too bright also benefited from the volunteers. I am lucky to live in a community who can give as much as the schools need, volunteer wise.

Now, pay for successful teachers was fought harshly in my state of Florida. I do not believe in the pay increases for teachers who have children preform well, nor do our teachers in our state. The reason is because standardized testing has gone too far in our state. Too much time is being set aside going over material that is not being taught in the classroom. I believe that teachers who are underachieving should be allowed to be fired. A bad teacher is a bad teacher and let them go. Not in our state. We keep teachers because of their sex, race or religion. We have quotas to meet, even if the teachers are sub par. Teachers best qualified for the job should be allowed to work.

I guess I will get off my computer and go do something. I have a President or Senator to write to. That or brush up my Mandarin or Japanese, Spanish, French...

I live in a very small town. We have 3 buses go by my house, all 3 are mostly empty. One for Elementary, Middle School, and one for High School. All for ONE school, yes all 3 buses go to one school. 3 drivers, 3 buses, waste of gas on 3 buses, insurance on 3 buses, and NO teacher when they get there.
